There’s this beautiful thing that happens during family sessions.
You parents, you don’t even know it’s happening. I know you’re worried that your kid is acting crazy, that the little one just spit up everywhere and, oh gosh, how are we ever going to make
it through the next hour? On your way here, mom is probably getting her final make-up touches on (while praying that everything goes picture perfect) and one of the kids probably found
all of the red skittles in the world tucked into the car seat (and decided to put them all in his mouth), and dad? Oh, dad is probably as quiet as a mouse because he just wants to hurry up and get this done.
Sometimes, you’re already frazzled up before we even begin.
The thing is, friends…There’s beauty in the chaos. I think that is one of the best things about this job of mine. Your kids, they’re acting like the best kids they can be. And from experience with my own,
sometimes that means they are crazy. But in this one hour portrait session, you get to soak all that crazy up like nothing else matters.
Red skittle-dyed kisses. dirty finger nails. crazy loud laughing and all.
There is love in the chaos.
And it looks like siblings chasing each other or squeezing each other, maybe a little too hard. It looks like mom and dad hugging each other, awkwardly, not quite sure if they’re doing it right.
But they are, because love is love and it’s there in that awkward hug and it’s there in the full-bellied laugh just after.
So, when you go to your next photo session, remember to just drop all that concern at the door. Be in the moment with your family. Be in love with your family.
Love is in the chaos and I love to see you embrace it.
